The IPHARD project

The Experimental Unit of Field Crops, of the INRAE Centre INRAE Occitanie-Toulouse, launched in 2020 the project Ideotyping and Phenotyping for the Adaptation of Soya and Sunflower Varieties to Relay or Derobic Cultivation (IPHARD). The aim of this project is to adapt to the climatic challenges in Occitania and to agricultural markets by 2024, by identifying soybean and sunflower varieties adapted to double cropping that offer interesting yield levels for farmers. In concrete terms, the aim is to use high-performance measurement tools (phenotyping) to evaluate the varieties that behave best (ideotyping) in these types of crops and for this climate.

To facilitate the agro-ecological transition, the Phenome project is developing equipment for thousands of plants, as well as methods to analyse the genetic variability of plant responses to climate change (drought, high CO2, high temperatures, emerging diseases). Within this framework, AgroPhen is a project facility based at the INRAE Occitanie-Toulouse Research Centre, which focuses on field phenotyping with high-performance, high-speed tools such as a Phenomobile robot and a drone that enable high-speed phenotyping.
